Boosting Your Resume to Land a Dream Job

July 29, 2014

Regardless of the industry that you’re seeking employment in, you’ll want to take a look at your old resume. In fact, you may want to trash it and create an entirely new one. It is through a champion resume that you’ll be able to land a good job that pays well. Here’s a quick glimpse at a few tips for enhancing your resume.

Outline Any and All Experience

You’ll want to explain all experience that you have, even if it doesn’t seem relevant to the position that you’re applying for. Why is this? It’s because even if you don’t land the exact position that you’re applying to, a hiring manager might recognize your other areas of experience and determine that you’d be a good fit for a different position.

Keywords are Important

Many companies using applicant tracking systems to sift through the hundreds, possibly thousands, of resumes that get given to them. These systems often look for certain keywords. Keeping this in mind, you’ll want to enhance your resume by including relevant keywords for the position that you want to fill. For example, if you’re seeking employment as a welder, then the following keywords should be used in your resume:

  • Welder
  • Arc
  • Tig
  • Flux core
  • Solid state

You Need an Objective Section

Lots of people outline their experience on their resumes, but they fail to include an "Objectives" section. Don’t be one of those people. Always include an "Objectives" section that clearly states why you want to work for the company that you’re giving your resume to. Remember to update this section according to each company that you’re seeking employment through.

Include a Specialties Section

Just the same as you need an "Objectives" section, a "Specialties" section is important too. It is in this section that you’ll want to outline any experience and training that you have that makes you unique from other job applicants.

The Takeaway

By following the tips mentioned above, you’ll be well on your way to enhancing your resume, which means you’re much more likely to land your dream job.
