Is The Teaching Field Very Competitive?

If you are going to college and want to enter into the field of teaching, there are several things you should know. First and foremost, you should look at the competition in this field. As you probably know, a lot of people go to college to become a teacher. And while this might seem like it would make competition in this field high, the truth is, there is a very high turnover rate among teachers, which lessens the competition if you are looking for a teaching job.

What you should also note, however, is that some teaching positions are much more difficult to land than others. Take for example you want to become an art teacher. Many schools only offer one art class, meaning only one art teacher is needed. Whereas other classes, like English, History, and science, are offered much more, meaning many more teachers teaching these classes are needed. So, with this in mind, you have to understand that the competition found within the field of teaching is greatly increased when you want to teach a class that is offered less.

As far as salary concerns go, you are going to make much more money if you land a job as a professor at a college or university. And yes, the competition in college-level teaching positions is much less because not as many teachers have the advanced degrees that are needed to fill these positions.
