When you work in a retail store, you will be unboxing all the merchandise as it arrives to the store. This means that you will see the merchandise before it hits the floor; before any of your customers see it. This will give you first chance to see any merchandise that you may be interested in purchasing.

Depending on where you work, your store manager may allow you to pull an item from the merchandise that you were interested in buying and hold it back until your next paycheck. They may even let you keep the item on hold and make two or even three payments on it. This may even be the case if your store doesn't have an official layaway policy. For many employees, this is a big benefit that makes working in retail very much worth it!

Shift Coverage

Unlike an office job, you may be able to switch shifts with another employee when you work in retail. This is because all of the employees have similar job skills, and they are interchangeable. This is a great benefit if you are going to school or have other time obligations and prefer a flexible schedule.
